Raise a Ruckus

So, one of department chairs (we have two) has been out this past week with asthma problems. Oh, I feel his pain. He's on way more prednisone than I was, though. His wife (another member of the faculty) was calling back and forth with the other chair to let him in on all the info. In the course of the conversation, my name came up because I also have asthma and other breathing problems. She suggested that they get me another room before the start of next year, or it will just get worse for me.

Now, I appreciate the concern. I think it's really sweet that she was thinking of me, but now I'm really torn. I hate to have people's lives bothered in any way by anything I happen to be doing. I really like my room. It is huge and I can do so many things with it because of its size. I also have an emotional attachment to it because I actually had my favorite English teacher ever in that room and I cadet taught for her there as well.

The only problem is that I think that the woman may have a point. I've been sick more this year than last, although I did get bronchitis once at my last school, I've already gotten it twice this year. The carpet is ancient and a bit gross and I don't know how often they have it cleaned, although they do vacuum at least twice a week.

The only thing is, though, that this means that someone else will have to switch rooms with me. Which would be bad. Someone else (as well as myself) will have to haul all of their stuff along the hallway just because I'm getting a new room that I didn't ask for.

What if they think I asked for it? What if I still get just as sick next year? What if they get mad?

Arg.

I hate rocking the boat.

Would it be easier for them just to replace the carpet?

That's so my thinking. I just don't look forward to moving my stuff and moving from the rest of the dept. We'll see.

Blah!
