In answer to someone's comment that boys seem to have a hard time finding heros among women.
Kate--You just brought up a great point. I teach 7th grade lit and I find myself recommending books with male heros to boys more than books with female heros. When I think about it, though, I realized that I read TONS of books with male heros and I am female. Why should it matter to the boy if the hero is a girl?
Why is that my first inclination? Why am I more likely to recommend Heir Apparent or Howl's Moving Castle or even Goose Girl to my girls rather than to my boys, but I recommend Raven's Gate or The Bartimeaus Trilogy or Zach's Lie to both?
Hmmmmmm... Points to ponder.
