True Torture

I think that I'm supposed to learn patience.

Last Wednesday, I had an interview at the School District of My Dreams, at the School of My Dreams (my old high school). I won't know if I got the job until Friday.

Right now I keep replaying the interview over and over again in my head. It was rather unusual, but also rather amazing.

It was scheduled for 8:00 at night. I was last in a series of interviews. The first half-hour was supposed to be a writing prompt, followed by an hour-long questioning period. I went shopping that day, got a new cami to go under my business suit. I wanted something that said, "Yes! I'm business-like, but I'm also fun!" I worked out, took a shower, and was attempting to maneuver into my pantyhose, when the phone rang. My mom answered it and, after finding that it was the school administrator, gave the phone to me. Still hunched over my pantyhose and a bit confused, I answered, trying to sound my cheeriest and least-confused. Here's the conversation.

Administrator: You're our last interview tonight, and the interview that was scheduled for right now is a no-show. Can you come up early?

Miss A: I would, but my hair is soaking wet.

Administrator: Don't worry about it. Just come. No makeup? Just come.

Miss A: If you're sure, I'll be right over.

That's right. At the interview for the School of My Dreams I had wet hair, no make-up, and no jewelry.

I got there as quickly as possible, tried not to sound winded, and got my portfolio ready. The administrator thanked me for coming in, and let me know that the other applicant had actually showed up, but had been lost, wandering around the school. At least she said that I got points for coming as is.

I started on the prompt, wrote a basic 5 paragraph essay. Took a chance on my stance. Tried to remember exactly how to do a rhetorical analysis. Kicked myself for never having took a rhetoric class. Tried not to focus on the mumbles coming from the other room. The mumbles that made up my competition's interview. The mumbles that could mean the difference between being hired or being ignored.

Then came the interview. There were only three people. The Administrator. My Old AP Teacher and My Sister's Old AP Teacher. Not too shabby. By now I can't remember most of the questions, but I do remember that I had to come up with an impromptu lesson. On a poem. About a seagull.

Oh well. The long and the short of it is that I will know Friday.

If you don't hear from me until then, it means that I've begun biting my nails and have already gotten down far enough to impede typing.

Wish me luck.
