Today Makes Me Happy

This week is final week. Each final is designed to take two hours and there are fifteen minutes of passing period between them. The first day of finals has students taking their first hour final and then having a mostly regular day at school. Then Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday divide the rest of the classes with students leaving school before lunch and then students (not teachers) have Friday off.

In general, I would say that finals are a rather stressful time. Students are high energy, partially due to the fact that most of them worry about how they are going to do on their final. And rightly so. Some of them in my class should really be worried. Especially since I know some of them never read half of the books. They're really missing out.

Right now, though, I really want to focus on what makes me happy. What is that? Four entire hours to grade. Wahoo! Will this get long? Yes! Will this be tedious? Yes! But, this will also be helpful to me since I have a million and a half papers to grade. It just works out that my two prep periods land on the same final day. (We have block scheduling and so usually they land every other day from each other, but with the way that finals work out they are suddenly on the same day.) There are dangers with having both in one day (concentration), but there are also joys (getting work done and things checked off my list).

So, wish me luck all. Hope you're having a great day!
