The Roads of Yesterday
I walk along the roads of now and then,
To look for bits of glass and sequins lost,
And seek the treasures of remember-when
To find I gave my childhood for a cost.
My childish thoughts replaced by the profound,
And lost are ways I knew when young at play.
I could bring the stars of heaven to ground,
And dance among them as I watched their sway.
But now the earth is where my feet are held.
Reality keeps monsters in their place,
But stars are also no longer be-spelled.
So onward I head--so sure to keep my pace.
And look towards future wonders I can find,
So one day I can both worlds intertwine.
